Announcement: 7th TERRA⁺ School to Be Held in Kyoto, Japan (December 2025)

The Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) and the Future Earth Japan Global Secretariat Hub are pleased to announce that the 7th TERRA⁺ School will take place from December 4 to 9, 2025, at RIHN in Kyoto, Japan.

TERRA⁺ School is a capacity-building program focused on transdisciplinary (TD) research for sustainability. Designed for early-career researchers and practitioners from across Asia and beyond, TERRA School equips participants with key concepts, methods, and collaborative approaches to bridge research and real-world action on pressing sustainability challenges and build competencies for science missions.

This year’s program(Program brief) will run back-to-back with RIHN’s International Symposium on Capacity Building for Green Transformation (December 10–11, 2025), offering participants a unique opportunity to share emerging ideas, build networks, and initiate future collaborations across sectors and regions.

Since its launch, the TERRA⁺ School has contributed to strengthening Asia’s next generation of TD leaders through hands-on learning, peer exchange, and regional dialogue. Alumni of the program have gone on to engage in collaborative research, contribute to international conferences, and participate in international sustainability initiatives.

The course and symposium are free. There are very limited travel grants available for participants from Asia. High consideration will be given for self-funded applicants! However since we can only accommodate a small group of participants, a selection process will consider gender,  research background and geographic balance.

Applicants must submit the completed Application form no later than 6:00 PM (Japan time) on 24 August, 2025.  They also need to be nominated by any member of  Future Earth, RIHN or Asia Science Missio– the Nomination forms need to be completed by 20 August, 2025 or as early as possible.
