Compliance
In addition to ensuring that all faculty and staff of RIHN comply with relevant laws and regulations as well as the various rules and policies established by the National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU), we promote initiatives that encourage the fair, impartial, and honest execution of duties in daily activities, and foster conduct grounded in a strong sense of ethics and social responsibility.
The National Institutes for the Humanities, in accordance with the Guidelines for the Management and Audit of Public Research Funds at Research Institutions (Revised on February 1, 2021) and the Guidelines for Responding to Research Misconduct (Adopted by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on August 26, 2014), has established systems and frameworks to prevent research misconduct across NIHU as a whole, including at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature.

In addition, please see the page of the National Institutes for the Humanities for support programs for faculty and staff.

Conflict of interest management
At RIHN, we collaborate with various stakeholders in society, such as companies, governments, and local residents, to promote transdisciplinary research that leads to problem-solving, and to pursue research activities in collaboration with the general public. While respecting the voluntary activities of staff members to the greatest extent possible, we aim to prevent problems arising from so-called "conflict of interest" situations, engage in activities without worrying about conflicts of interest, and achieve results. Under the Policy on Conflicts of Interest of the Institute for Cultural Studies, we manage conflicts of interest through the Joint Research Committee.
Conflict of Interest Policy
-
Avoid situations in which third parties may objectively perceive that personal interests are being prioritized over duties to the National Institutes for the Humanities (conflict of interest in the narrow sense).
-
Avoid situations in which activities outside the National Institutes for the Humanities may objectively be perceived as being prioritized, regardless of whether personal interests exist, contrary to the rules and regulations established by the organization (conflict of commitment).
-
As an inter-university research institute corporation, avoid undermining the formation of shared academic assets for the academic research community as a whole.
