Compliance

The Institute for Global Studies is committed to ensuring that its faculty and staff not only comply with laws, regulations, and other rules and regulations established by the National Institutes for the Humanities, but also perform their duties fairly, impartially, and sincerely in their daily activities, and act with high ethical standards and social good sense.

The National Institutes for the Humanities has established the Guidelines for Management and Auditing of Public Research Funds at Research Institutions; Guidelines for Practice (revised on February 1, 2021); and Guidelines for Responding to Misconduct in Research Activities (Revised on February 1, 2021), based on the decision by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on August 26, 2014. A fraud prevention system for the entire Research Institute for the Humanities, including RIHN, has been established.

In addition, based on the implementation plan for compliance education and enlightenment activities at the National Institute for the Humanities, we will strive to instill awareness of fraud prevention among our staff.

Conflict of interest management

At RIHN, we collaborate with various stakeholders in society, such as companies, governments, and local residents, to promote transdisciplinary research that leads to problem-solving, and to pursue research activities in collaboration with the general public. While respecting the voluntary activities of staff members to the greatest extent possible, we aim to prevent problems arising from so-called "conflict of interest" situations, engage in activities without worrying about conflicts of interest, and achieve results. Under the Policy on Conflicts of Interest of the Institute for Cultural Studies, we manage conflicts of interest through the Joint Research Committee.

Research Strategy Council

  • Third parties cannot objectively see that personal interests are prioritized over the duties of the organization (conflict of interest in the narrow sense).
  • Do not be seen objectively as giving priority to activities outside the organization, regardless of whether or not there is personal interest, in accordance with the various rules established by the organization (conflict of responsibilities).
  • As an inter-university research institute, do not detract from the formation of common assets for all academic research fields.
