Abstract

Jabodetabek is an area that is experiencing the highest level of development and urbanization acceleration in Indonesia. Jabodetabek area has been entering an urban transformation with a high movement of people who settled in cities. Jabodetabek area consists of several local governments: Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tanggerang, Tanggerang Selatan, Bekasi (City) and Bogor, Bekasi and KepulauanSeribu (Municipality). Jabodetabek area are suffering from the lack of urban green space caused by rapid development. This has been given a serious impact of the decreasing quality of urban environment. Green open space is an important element for improving microclimatic conditions in urban areas, and has an ecological function to create a comfortable microclimate, to absorb rainwater, and to maintain the urban ecosystem. Continuous disappearance of green space creates a negative impact on the urban environment conditions in the region, both hydrological disturbances such as the imbalance of the water system as well as the increased discomfort urban conditions due to changes in the microclimate in urban areas. The research was conducted in the main city of Jabodetabek area: Jakarta and Bogor. These cities are facing the phenomenon of an increased in air temperature caused by urbanization process. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in microclimate on different forms of green open space structures (trees, shrubs, grasses) and patterns (clustered and li63148;near). They are located on different land use such as urban park, residential, central business district and industrial area, both in the city of Jakarta and Bogor. In this study, we use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing to identify patterns of land cover and land use; and determine the location of the observation. Microclimate measurements were performed by using“Heavy Weather Station Mini microclimate” from RIHN. The results of analysis indicated that the “trees” are more effective to reduce the temperature and increase the humidity in comparison with the structure of other vegetations (shrubs and grasses). The results also proved that there are differences in temperature and humidity at the same vegetation structure (tree, shrub, grass) on the different pattern of green space (linear vs. clusters), and the different types of land use (urban park, residential, central business district and industry), as well as the city with different landform types (Jakarta and Bogor)

CV:Dr. Alinda Zain is a lecturer and head of Landscape Planning Studio, Division of Landscape P,lanning and Design, Department of Landscape Architecture – IPB, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Currently, she is visiting RIHN in Kyoto as a visiting research fellow of the megacity project, from November the 1st to 30th of 2014.

Her research is specialized at Urban Landscape Ecology and Planning and her professional experience includes Deputy of Collaboration, Directorate of Collaboration and International Program IPB (2008-2013).

She acquired her professional degree in landscape architecture (1989) and her Master degree in environmental management (1998) from Bogor Agricultural University of Indonesia. Her PhD in landscape planning and ecology is from Tokyo University (2002). In 2014, she had training on housing policy and land use.
