Here are the recent updates of Environmental Valuation Project research activities.

November 2007
Field tour and project member meeting was held in one of the project's research sites, Kyoto University's Wakayama Experimental Forest.
October - November 2007
Questionnaire survey on Peple's Attitude toward Forest, River, and Lake Environment was conducted on randomly selected 12,400 residents of selected Class-A-river sytems in Japan.
September 2007
IDEA Project changed its official nickname to "Environmental Valuation Project".
August 2007
Project leader and project members took a field trip to Shumarinai Lake area.
May 2007
New project leader, Masayoshi Nakawo joined the project team.
February - March 2007
Survey on Forest Management for the Next Generation was conducted on randomly selected 6,400 residents of selected Class-A-river sytems in Japan. The brief overview of the survey is available here.
December 2006
December 15, Project leader, Takahito Yoshioka has presented at the RIHN Project Research Presentation held at Kyoto Terrsa. Presentation slides and handout can be viewed from Resources > Products > Conference Presentations
March 2006
March 2, IDEA project has passed the Interrim Evaluation at the 6th RIHN Evaluation Committee held at RIHN.
October - November 2005
  • November 28-29, Project Core Member meeting was held at RIHN to share eachmember's Research progresses.
  • October 17 to November 14, IDEA Development Team conducted Sample Survey on Interests in Watershed Environment on randomly chosen 1,800 residents in Japan. The brief overview of the survey is available here.
September 2005
September Sep 19 - 21, IDEA Response Prediction Model Team hosted a theme session on development of ecological response prediction model in the symposeum of Japanese Sciety of Limnology in Osaka.
March 2005
  • March 10 - 11, Project Core Member meeting was held at RIHN to share each member's Research progresses and to discuss this year's research activity plans.
  • March 30 - April 1, the forest ecosystem subgroup of the Response Prediction Model Team had a PnET model workshop in Moshiri.
November 2004
  • IDEA Development Team visited Dr. Kisaburo Nakata at Tokai University, and discussed the issues in the development of the lake ecosystem model, as a component of the IDEA response prediction model. The team also discussed the possible collaboration in the model development with him.
  • November 29 - 30, IDEA Response Prediction Model Team meeting was held at Nagoya University in conjunction with the seminar on the All Japan Stream Water Survey. The members discussed the application the Survey results to the IDEA Response Prediction Model and other issues on the model devlopment.
August - September 2004
Emi Kimura, a Kyoto University student and a member of IDEA development Team, conducts preliminary Main Questionnaire Survey in Shumarinai Lake area.
July 2004
Preliminary Interest Questionnaire Survey was conducted in Kyoto at the RIHN annual symposium ("Chikyu-ken Forum").
June 2004
  • Response Prediction Model Development Team made a field trip to Uryu Experimental Forest for field sampling and to discuss the plans of model construction.
  • IDEA Development Team made a field tour to Uryu Experimental Forest of Hokkaido University and the Shumarinai Lake area for site inspection and information collection for the coming full-scale social studies with local residents. The group conducted preliminary interviews with the staff of Uryu Experimental Forest to gather the information about the social backgrounds of the local community. The group also discussed the plans of full-scale social survey to be conducted later this year.
May 2004
IDEA Project invites Dr. Charles Driscoll of Syracuse University for collaborative research in the development of Response Prediction Model.
April 2004
IDEA Project was promoted to a full-scale study!
March 2004
Revisions of research plan were accepted by the evaluation committee.
December 2003
IDEA Project Member meeting and workshop were held.
October 2003
  • Dr. Yuejun Zheng joined RIHN as an associate professor and a core member of IDEA Project.
  • IDEA Project invites Dr. Myron Mitchell of SUNY-College of Environmental Science and Forestry for a collaborative research in the development of Response Prediction Model.
March 2003
Due to the shortage of funding, the promotion to a full-scale study scheduled in April 2003 was postponed for a year, and the project was requalified as a Feasibility study for another year.
December 2002
IDEA Project Member meeting and workshop were held.
June 2002
Dr. Toshio Sugiman of Kyoto University joined the project as a core member.
April 2002
IDEA Development Team conducted Keyword Questionnaire Survey in Kyoto, Niigata, Saitama, and Aichi prefectures.
March 2002
IDEA Project has passed the Evaluation Committee, and was qualified to be a full-scale study from April 2003.
December 2001
Project plan was revised and submitted.
August 2001
IDEA Project was qualified to be a feasibility study from April 2002.
July 2001
Project plan was submitted to the evaluation committee.
June 2001
IDEA Project kicked off at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature as an incubation study.
