Dr. DUDA, Romain is a permanent researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), based at the Centre d’Écologie Fonctionnelle et Évolutive (CEFE) in Montpellier, France. Trained in environmental anthropology, he has a broad interdisciplinary background spanning ethnoecology, medical anthropology, and environmental sciences, and regularly collaborates with virologists and ecologists. His research interests include hunting and food systems in Central Africa, human-animal interactions and zoonotic diseases, local and Indigenous knowledge, hunter-gatherer studies, and multimodal anthropology.
During his stay, he will discuss methodological approaches in ethnoecology and share his experience in both qualitative and quantitative research with Associate Prof. HONGO Shun and members of the Fashloks project at RIHN. Drawing on his fieldwork in diverse ethnographic contexts across the Congo Basin, he will share insights into hunting practices, relationships with wildlife, and wild meat consumption. He will also engage with the wider research community through one-to-one discussions, seminars, or lectures at ASAFAS (Kyoto University) and at African Studies Center (TUFS, Tokyo).
