Reception of the Visiting Research Fellow (INUSAH, Husein)
Dr. INUSAH, Husein is a Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Classics and Philosophy at the University Cape Coast (UCC), Cape Coast, Ghana, where he also serves as Head of Department. He earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Ghana in 2014, following a Master of Philosophy (2011) and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English (2007) from the University of Cape Coast. In 2015/2016, he received the University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor’s Award for the Most Outstanding PhD Dissertation in the Humanities category. He was also a Doctoral Completion Fellow at the University of Rochester, New York, where he studied under the renowned American epistemologist, Prof. Richard Feldman.
Dr. INUSAH’s research interests span the epistemology of race and decoloniality; deliberative rationality and consensual democracy in African political thought; virtue epistemology and African indigenous knowledge systems; epistemic vices and their role in obstructing knowledge; the infinitist response to the regress of justification; and AI ethics. His current work examines the negative impact of intelligent technologies on the Global South and develops African indigenous perspectives on AI ethics. He also explores the interconnections between African (particularly Akan) and Asian (particularly Japanese) philosophies on environmental preservation and sustainability for intergenerational futures. Dr. INUSAH has published extensively in these areas in leading journals across African, Western, and Asian intellectual spaces, and he has presented his work at conferences and institutes in Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Germany, Estonia, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
Dr. INUSAH is a Fellow of the African Humanities Programme of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) in the USA, an Iso Lomso Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) in South Africa, and a Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin Institute for Advanced Study in Germany. In 2026, he is awarded an Invited Scholar position at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) in Kyoto, Japan, where he researches “Addressing Environmental Challenges: Insights from Indigenous African and Asian Philosophies” with Prof. Motoji Matsuda on the RIHN research program “Towards a Global Environmental Culture by Articulating Science and Indigenous Knowledge.” Dr. INUSAH will deliver seminars and actively engage with RIHN members and other scholars in Japan through interviews, discussions, and lectures on his research project.
