Research Topic:Repatterning cultural landscapes as transformative, post-growth rurban commons: building new theory and strategy

Dr. Steven R. McGreevy is an assistant professor of institutional rurban sustainability studies in the Department of Governance and Technology for Sustainability at the University of Twente (Netherlands). He is trained as an environmental sociologist and has a broad interdisciplinary background in sustainable development, food systems, and environmental education. His research interests include novel approaches to sustainable bioregional revitalization, sustainable agrifood transitions and post-growth food systems, relinking of patterns of food consumption and production through policy and practice, and simulation and serious gaming as a tool for sustainability education and governance.

During his stay, Dr. Mcgreevy will discuss rural-urban development strategies and theory & mechanisms for maintaining and repatterning cultural landscapes with Professor Dwyer, Specially-Appointed Professor Shobayashi, and SATOCONN project members. He will interact with RIHN staff and past project networks, conduct fieldwork in the Kansai area, and host seminars during his time at RIHN.
