Professor Anik Bhaduri is Director of the Sustainable Water Future Programme at Future Earth and an internationally recognized scholar in water economics, global water policy, and water governance, with over 20 years of experience. Trained in environment and natural resource economics, his research spans both theoretical and applied water economics, including transboundary water sharing, socio-ecological risk assessment, and adaptive water management under climate change.

As Director of the Asia Science Mission, an international science initiative led by Future Earth Asia with RIHN and other international organizations, Professor Bhaduri leads mission-oriented, transdisciplinary research programmes that connect scientific diagnostics with policy innovation and real-world decision-making. His work places particular emphasis on integrating community priorities, scientific evidence, and catalytic investment to advance sustainability and resilience in complex socio-ecological systems, particularly across Asia.

During his stay at RIHN, Professor Bhaduri will advance research on the Economics of Water Security, working closely with Professor Makoto Taniguchi at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature. His research will focus on green–grey infrastructure pathways, learning-ready socio-ecological systems, and economic decision frameworks for managing climate and development risks. He will also contribute to seminars and lectures exploring how economic reasoning and transdisciplinary science can jointly support transformative water governance.
