Job Description The Project Research Associate for a RIHN Project “Fair for whom? Politics, power and precarity in transformations of tropical forest-agriculture frontiers (FairFrontiers)” will have the job responsibilities of carrying out land use and land cover change detection and supporting interdisciplinary research:

·  Carry out remote sensing and GIS analyses of land use and land cover change in project case study sites using Landsat data,
·  Develop and create maps as needed,
·  Contribute towards collaborative analyses with the project researchers and partners,
·  Contribute to blogs, briefs and papers based on the change detection work,
·  Support to project administration and reporting.
Qualifications We are looking for motivated and adaptive candidates who are interested to learn new research skills in a friendly and collaborative environment:
·  Speaking and writing profiency in English is required, and in Japanese is preferred, 
·  A Master’s degree is preferred, 
·  Candidates should have technical skills in land use and land use change detection. Those with experience in carrying out analysis related to forest and agriculture land uses are highly encouraged to apply,
·  Familiarity with multiple GIS and remote sensing tools (e.g. ArcGIS, Summit, QGIS, IDRISI, etc.) will be an advantage,
·  Experience working in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams will be an advantage.
Terms of Employment From date of employment decision until 31 March, 2024 (start date is flexible, contract is renewable annually until March 2026).
Working Hours Based on the general working hours of Mon.–Fri. 8:30-17:00 (excluding the 12:15-13:00 lunch break), with discretionary employment system of professional work. Holidays: Japanese national holidays and 29 December–3 January.
Salary Daily Wage: 13,150 JPY
Other Allowances Commuter Allowance, Rent Allowance, and Overtime Allowance (No other compensations, awards and termination benefits).
Insurances Health Insurance (Mutual aid association of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and the Employees’ Pension Insurance, and the Employment Insurance in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
