Activities developed by humans, (incl. energy, transportation, industry, agriculture, administration, telecommunication, etc.) have become so intertwined that they form a complex system: the technosphere. Its impacts on the hydrosphere, the lithosphere, the biosphere or the atmosphere have led to the concept of anthropocene. Beyond matter and energy, information plays an increasingly important role. The datasphere can be defined much like the hydrosphere with information bits in place of water molecules. Information might be at rest or in motion, accessible or proprietary, under machine or human control. The information part of economic and social activities is progressively moving to the datasphere, decorrelated from territories. Actors of a new sort, in control of the needs of humans--machines as well as other living organisms--are promoting a new organisation, more horizontal and complex, with renewed management of resources.
