This project focuses on global environmental issues relating to tropical peat swamp forest, a very fragile ecological system with huge amounts of carbon and water. The purpose of this project is to offer perspectives for the “futurability” of tropical peat land society by discussing and implementing appropriate, concrete methods to conserve and utilize the peat swamp.
Relating to the topic, new Government Regulation on Protection and Management of Peat Ecosystem (PP Tentang PERLINDUNGAN DAN PENGELOLAAN EKOSISTEM GAMBUT) is so important and controvertial, so at this seminar, we will discuss on the meaning and implementation of new regulation.
This is a new collaborative research project among LIPI- Kyoto University,- Bogor Agricultural University-Riau University-Gadja Mada University-BPPT-CIFOR and Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN, Kyoto) in collaboration with local people, government, companies to look for solutions to the serious issue of peatland conservation and rehabilitation..
