本ワークショップでは、1)気候変動と人為・自然災害の影響に注目して、人間と環境の相互作用についてその長期的変化の要因・条件・結果を検討するとともに、2)考古学や古環境学の事例研究が、地域・地球環境問題に関する今日の議論にどのように貢献できるかを考える。議論の焦点のひとつは、食と生業の多様性、人・物・情報の移動、社会経済システムのスケールなどの文化的諸変数の間の相互関係である。対象地域は、北環太平洋・大西洋地域を中心とする。
