シンポジウムのテーマと概要

生態系サービスの全世界的劣化など、さまざまな地球環境問題のボトムアップによる解決のためには、多様なステークホルダーによる意思決定とアクションを支える統合的な知識基盤が必要です。総合地球環境学研究所・未来設計プロジェクト「地域環境知形成による新たなコモンズの創生と持続可能な管理」(地域環境知プロジェクト)は、地域の、さらには地球規模の環境問題の解決に向けて、「地域環境知」を基礎にした地域社会の順応的ガバナンスの仕組みを解明することを目指しています。地域環境知とは、地域社会における多様なステークホルダーの協働を通じて生産されるさまざまな形の在来知と科学的知識が融合して形成される、領域融合的で問題解決型の知識基盤のことで、地域環境知プロジェクトはその生産、流通、そして効果的な活用のメカニズムに注目して、研究を進めています。

五年間のプロジェクトの三年目をむかえ、私たちは統合的な知識基盤を効果的に活用して社会の順応的な変化を促す仕組みとして、「知識の双方向トランスレーター」の働きを考える国際シンポジウムを開催することにしました。知識の双方向トランスレーターは、科学的知識を地域の環境課題のフレーミングや科学者以外のステークホルダーの世界観に接合できるように再評価、再構成すると同時に、人々の日常の中で形成される在来の知識体系を科学的な言語や言説に翻訳することを通じて、科学者・専門家を含むさまざまなステークホルダーの間のフレーミングのずれや価値の違い、異なる世界観をつないで地域環境知の生産と流通を促す働きをしています。シンポジウムの第一セッションでは、知識のトランスレーションが地域社会における意思決定と協働活動を活性化する働きについて議論します。第二セッションでは異なる時空間的スケール（ローカルからグローバルまで）をつなぐ協働を促す階層間の知識のトランスレーションの働きに焦点を当てます。シンポジウムの登壇者は、地域環境知プロジェクトのメンバーの中で、世界各地で実際にトランスレーターとして活躍している方々です。その経験を共有することを通じて、持続可能な社会の実現に向けた科学と社会のかかわりのあり方に関する最新の研究について議論を深めます。
