Abstract: Based on experiences as chair for the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grants Panel SH7 (Human mobility, environment and space) and work for other national research councils, this presentation will discuss the new trends in research assessment inspired by the San Francisco Declaration of Research Assessment (DORA) as well as provide insights into how ERC grants - Europe’s most prestigious grants - are allocated. The presentation will also discuss how RIHN, as an organization funding interdisciplinary research, has the potential to influence - and be influenced by - European approaches to research funding.
