Title: Changes in permafrost dynamics and the influence on landscapes and social adaptation in Eastern Siberia
Speaker: Dr. Alexander Fedorov
(Visiting Research Fellow, "Global Warming and the Human-Nature Dimension in Siberia" Project, RIHN / Head of Laboratory, Melnikov Permafrost Institute, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences)

Abstract:

Climate shift and trends observed in Eastern Siberia have been large effects to the permafrost conditions. Changes of landscapes have related to the permafrost dynamics and had direct influence on social activities as well as humanity in the region. The protection of permafrost from degradation is one of the important issues, and the landscape dynamics is the main basics. In this seminar, I will present recent landscape changes and relating social adaptation, partly focusing on heat-pump use in the region.
