Gas emissions and the impact on the environment has been one of the most important environmental issues.

From a policy viewpoint, the relationship between gas emissions, energy consumption and economic growth shall have a significant bearing upon policy designed to energy saving, pollution mitigation and regional development. Our empirical study performs a multivariate causality framework to probe the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth based on neo -classical aggregate production theory. Our findings indicate he existence of short- and long-run causality running from energy consumption, capital and employment to economic growth.

The estimation results also imply that energy serves as an important source of economic growth in China. Furthermore, our present study attempts to investigate the relationship between urbanization, economic growth and sulfur dioxide emissions within the STIRPAT (Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology) framework. Our results find evidence in support of an inverted U-shaped curve relationship between GDP per capita and sulfur dioxide emissions, but little evidence of the similar inference for urbanization and sulfur dioxide emissions.
