- Abstract
-
Background: A third sector organization aspire to offer a social prescription (SP) service within an innovative health and well-being Hub, in Wales. In line with the requirement of Welsh Government policy, the aim of this study was to engage in the development of SP interventions through a co-design and co-production approach benefitting current generations whilst considering challenges for future generations.
Method: Drawing from the principles of citizen assembly deliberations and Future Design, four focus groups (n=16) were conducted to develop sustainable strategies for SP as part of the Hub. Deliberation on the perspectives of future generations were considered along with current community needs.
Findings: Results of the focus groups imply a need for taking a citizen assembly approach to the development of SP interventions, to address social and economic determinants of health. Results demonstrate that SP interventions are an integral part of establishing a holistic health service to ensure a resilient and sustainable healthy community.
Interpretation: Intergenerational deliberation takes into account the interest and perspectives of future generations for sustainability. Taking a short and long-term thinking approach to focus groups is effective in addressing the needs of present-day citizens and recognising long-term challenges and inspiring interventions for sustainable healthy communities.
