This session will explore the distinctive approach to future design in Aotearoa New Zealand, in particular the deep relationship New Zealanders have with indigenous knowledge and traditions. In 2024, Matariki - the Māori New Year festival will be celebrated at the end of June. As such this session holds special significance; Victoria will use Matariki as an anchor to explore how Maori traditions such as this inform and shape our modern vision of the future. As part of this session Victoria will introduce attendees to her futures mapping project, which identifies key members of the New Zealand futures community and connects them via a dynamic network map. Sheʼll also choose key projects from the local futures ecosphere to demonstrate how cultural diversity plays out on the national stage.
