The 26th "Environmental Disease" project workshop

Date:Friday, May 5, 2009, 15:00-17:00
Place:Seminar rooms 3 and 4 of RIHN

Speaker:Dr. Machiko Nishino (Head of Integrated Analysis, Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute)
Title:
The change of ecosystem caused by environmental alteration and its restoration: The case of Lake Biwa

【Abstract】
In the Lake Biwa, a lot of fish and water plants is threatened which is specified an endangered or rare species by Ministory of Envoronment or Shiga Prefecture. In this lecture, I will talk about the relationships between the these biological changes and environmental alteration in the coasts, and about how to restore the biodiversity of Lake Biwa.

The 25th "Environmental Disease" project workshop

<Linkage between Environment, Carp and KHV>
Date:Monday, May 13, 2009, 15:00-17:00
Place:Project room 6 of RIHN

Speaker: Dr. Arndt Telschow (Westfalian Wilhelms University, Germany)
Title: The dynamics of KHV and other infectious diseases

【Abstract】
We will discuss different human activities and their potential impact on disease outbreak of KHV:
 a)habitat destruction of coastline
 b)carp selection by humans
 c) water temperature change
We will also discuss some similarity between KHV and other pathogenic viruses.
