Thomas Harmon is Professor and Founding Faculty member at UC Merced. UC Merced is the newest UC campus. The campus opened in 2005 with about 800 students and now has about 8000 students. Prior to joining UC Merced, Professor Harmon was an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at UCLA. Professor Harmon received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University.
Professor Harmon works broadly in the discipline of environmental transport and fate of pollutants. His recent projects include studies on (1) climate and land use change impacts on watershed runoff and terrestrial carbon export, (2) carbon dioxide and methane emissions from tropical soils, and (3) transdisciplinary work on understanding risks to aquatic ecosystem services and comparing these risks across different socio-environmental systems in the U.S.A., Canada, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile.
