Future Earth は、持続可能な社会の実現をめざす地球環境研究の国際的な研究プラットフォームです。地球研は、Future Earthアジア地域センターを運営しています。
Future Earth は、社会と連携した持続可能性研究を行うしくみとして、「知と実践のネットワーク」（Knowledge-Action Networks：KANs）による研究に取り組んでいます。アジア地域センターは、その中で「持続可能な消費と生産のシステム」(Systems of Sustainable Consumption and Production：SSCP）をテーマにした「知と実践のネットワーク」の事務局として研究を推進しています。
本セミナーでは、本テーマに関する研究および研究ネットワークの充実を目的に、ネットワーク（KAN-SSCP）の主要メンバーと日本の研究者が、SDGｓの文脈における持続可能な消費と生産のシステムについて下記の通り話題提供とディスカッションを行います。
