Local Governance of Peatland Restoration in Riau, Indonesia
A Transdisciplinary Analysis

As a key research result of the RIHN Tropical Peatland Society Research Project (2017-2021), this book provides in-depth description and analysis of local governance especially in Riau, Indonesia, a center of peatland land conversion. It provides detailed description of local governance of peatland conservation and restoration from a transdisciplinary perspective, filling a vital gap in existing literature. With chapter contributions from scholars in Japan and Indonesia, as well as members of local Indonesian NGOs, the volume presents innovative mix of field methods, linking analysis of conventional surveys and questionnaires with the use of online interviews, new social media, and geospatial data. Readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding peatland conservation and restoration, and especially of the significance of inclusive local approaches and technologies supporting sustainable peatlands governance.
