Program | Lecturer: BROWN, Hannah (Durham University, /地球研フェローシップ外国人研究員 RIHN Visiting Research Fellow) Title: Thinking about zoonotic disease with Anthropology Abstract: In this talk I will give an overview of my work on human-animal relations and health as a topic of interest for medical anthropology. I will give an overview of a recently completed project about Lassa fever, a rodent born disease that is endemic across parts of West Africa, as an example of this approach. I will then discuss briefly how these approaches inform current work that is exploring bushmeat economies in Sierra Leone. Throughout the talk I will make the argument that attending to human-animal relations ethnographically opens new possibilities for understanding zoonotic disease risk through richer insights into the way that humans live with animals. |
