- Abstract
-
This talk will argue that currently wide-spread climate disobedience (political resistance in the name of climate justice and action on climate change) may be justified by the turn-taking model of fairness among generations. I will begin by defining climate disobedience and taking turns, and then show that to specify what a fair turn with earth might be, the well-known planetary boundary model can serve as a useful benchmark. I conclude that political and economic decision-makers that do not respect the boundaries thus make themselves liable to resistance, esp. by the next turn-taker, the future generation already overlapping with current decision-makers.
