Abstract:

This workshop provides an opportunity to discuss recent studies on the history of colonial city through case studies on Jakarta/Batavia.
The discussion covers several key topics on the history of colonial cities such as architecture, land tenure and development, urban planning, ethnicity and urban communities, with special emphasis on new analytical tools of the GIS system and on the recently found historical source materials. Finally, the workshop aims to look for new historiography to describe and create the future.
