Report

International symposium on "Human impacts on urban subsurface environment" was held as a kickoff meeting of the RIHN project 2-4.  The scientists from the counterparts, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Philippine were invited as well as some scientists from the UnitedState as commentators and evaluators.  The numbers of the foreign and domestic participants were 15 and 32.  Eights subjects were introduced from each sub-leaders on the first and third days after the project introduction from project leader. Research plans and expected results in 8 subjects were discussed. Subsurface environment at each cities were introduced and discussed in the morning of the second day. Reviews of the problems in each city and preliminary results were discussed.  25 poster presentations had been made though the international symposium, and Inter-project plenary session was held on 2ndday.  Discussion of MOU, visiting plans for five years, and financial matters were made at RIHN on the last day.
