Research Interests

        My main research interest is how does change in a society move people’s hearts and how does this change in the mentality bring about changes in a language. I conduct sociolinguistic research using the regional dialects of Japanese as my main research material.

        During the recent years I have been interested in the culture of central Kinki region – the Yamato culture. Focusing my historical research on language, I am interested in which epochs can be distinguished during the time span from the Yayoi period that gave a start to rice cultivating up to the globalised modern times, and what kind of change occurred during these epochs. I am interested in the relationship between the generalisation of the change and the individual regional styles adopted in each area of the Yamato culture.
