Present-day landscape is a palimpsest that contains traces of many historical periods. Most of the models of landscape history map only the recent turbulent changes in landscape, omitting the drastic landscape changes that occurred during the Neoltihisation period, although Neolithisation can be seen as a basic layer setting the patterns of landscape that are valid up to now.
