【概要】
日本は「ユーラシア世界」の「東のきわみ」にあり、「西のきわみ」にはヨーロッパ
の基層文明「ケルト文化」があります。両者は地理的におおいなる大陸、ユーラシア
を挟んで、キリスト教や仏教という大宗教の受容後も、その「古層の自然観」をのこ
してきました。今回は鶴岡真弓氏（多摩美術大学教授）をお招きし、ケルトの芸術や
神話もたどりながら、「水」と「火」に焦点を当て、ユーラシアに共振する環境と人
間をつなぐ「伝統のイデアとイメージ」についてお話しいただきます。

【講師・略歴】
1952年生まれ。早稲田大学大学院文学研究科修了。ダブリン大学トリニティー・カ
レッジ留学。立命館大学文学部教授を経て、現在多摩美術大学美術学部教授。専門は
美術史。『ケルト／装飾的思考』（筑摩書房）で、わが国ではじめてケルト芸術文化
史の全体を紹介し、ケルト・ブームの火付け役となる。その後、アイルランドから、
ウズベキスタン、内モンゴルまで調査に訪れ、ユーラシア文明の「装飾・デザイン」
交流史を探求、その一方で日本の文様を世界性の中に位置づける研究も進めている。
主な著書に、『聖パトリック祭の夜』（岩波書店）、『装飾する魂』（平凡社）、
『ケルト美術』（ちくま学芸文庫）、『ケルトと日本』（編著、角川書店）、『「装
飾」の美術文明史』（NHK出版）、『黄金と生命―時間と錬金の人類史』（講談
社）、『京都異国遺産』（平凡社）など。

■Title: Eurasian nature viewed from Celtic Culture ― "Water" & "Fire" in
myths, arts and folk religions
■Language: Japanese (*It's OK to hold discussions in English.)

The Japanese culture is situated in the Far East of the Eurasian world, and
the Celtic culture, a basis of European civilization, in the "Far West".
These two cultures are facing each other across the largest continent,
Eurasia, and both of them save their ancient or traditional view of nature
even after accepting the foreign and very influential religions,
Christianity and Buddhism.
In this seminar, focusing on "Water" and "Fire" in the Celtic arts and
myths, we deal with the ancient Idea and Images which relate Human with
Nature, resonating through the Eurasian world.
Prof. TSURUOKA is the most famous scholar of Celtic culture in Japan, who
studied in Trinity College, Dublin. In recent years she has researched the
history of cultural exchanges in the Eurasian Continent, especially in terms
of "Ornament and Design".
