【要 旨】
- Scientists are increasingly engaging in consortiums and other policy initiatives aimed at connecting environmental science with the needs of user communities. Such multi-stakeholder engagement is particularly important in work on urban energy systems, which are deeply embedded in the everyday lives of users. Large reductions in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions can be achieved by changing energy practices at the household level, yet numerous barriers exist at this level, including issues related to financing, knowledge and learning, and social norms. In this context, new and innovative forums are required to effectively link science, policy and practice. This talk will describe a conceptual approach for creating this linkage, the action research agenda, and it will describe several examples of forums that are being developed based on this approach, including the Worcester Housing, Energy and Community (WoHEC) group and a Social Computing System (SCS). Drawing on these examples from Northeastern USA, the presentation highlights the new and innovative forums for environmental governance that are emerging as scientists and other stakeholders blur the boundary between science and practice.
