Microeconomics and Household Survey Analysis: Credit accessibility and child labor in rural Andhra Pradesh, India.
Dr. Nobuhiko Fuwa (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University)

Abstract:
Observing household's access to credit and the child's time allocation in rural Andhra Pradesh, India, this study indicates that credit market failures result in a substantial reallocation of time use pattern by children, leading to a significant increase in remunerative work and a similarly significant decrease in leisure time. Longer work and shorter leisure could constrain learning opportunities of children, hampering human capital formation. In the framework of microeconomics, this seminar shows how to design household survey and its questionnaire then how to analyze the obtained data set using the case study of rural Andhra Pradesh, India.

Application of Spatial Hedonic Model on Environmental Economics: How to Estimate Negative Externalities on Property Values Resulting from Water Impairment, The Case of the Pigeon River Watershed in the Southeast United States
Dr. Seong-Hoon Cho (Associate Professor, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of Tennessee)

Abstract:
The objective of this research was to determine whether willingness to bear the negative externality from water quality impairment differs between those who do and those who do not receive economic benefit from the impairment source. Differences were tested using a spatial hedonic analysis of ambient water quality in two discrete housing markets in the Pigeon River Watershed, which have been polluted by the operation of a paper mill. In the framework of environmental economics, this seminar showcases the application of spatial hedonic model on environmental economics.
