第16回地球研セミナーを以下の通り開催いたしますので、みなさまふるってご参加ください。
なお講演は英語で行なわれますが、逐次通訳がつきます。

「Landscape and natural history 」

【概要】
This talk will try to illustrate 'natural history' and landscape in Britain by describing the history of our landscapes and our attitudestowards them. Like Japan, Britain has a wide range of landscape types depending on climate and underlying geology. Human activity can be traced back almost 10,000 years to the time when humans re-colonized Britain after the last glacial retreat. Almost nothing remains untouched but now we actively strive to conserve semi-natural habitats and the biodiversity that goes with them.
【講演者について】
エジンバラ大学名誉教授 動物行動学者。
ナチュラル・ヒストリーの教授を退いたのち、現在はBBC放送のプレゼンターとしても活躍。
"Landscape mysteries"などの番組を担当。地球科学earth sciences と地球上の生物の歴史との関係に興味をもっている。今回のセミナーでは、環境研究にとって重要な概念であるlandscapeとnatural history について発表する。
