東アジアにおける黄砂と砂漠化の長期変動に関する国際シンポジウム

【要　旨】

現在、乾燥域・半乾燥地域における砂漠化の進行とそれに伴う黄砂（風成塵）飛来の増加が、乾燥域・半乾燥地域のみならず日本、韓国、台湾など東アジアの広域の地域で大きな社会問題として取り上げられるようになった。これらの変動は、大気中の二酸化炭素増加による地球温暖化、乾燥地の乱開発、降水量減少と地下水利用増加に伴う地下水位低下、植生破壊および砂漠化の進行などが複雑に絡み合っており、その予測と将来のための政策立案には大きな困難が伴っている。また、砂漠化の進行が進む国々と、黄砂（風成塵）飛来という形で影響を受ける国々とでは、その対策に関する考え方に大きな隔たりが生じている。本シンポジウムでは、砂漠化の進行の進行する国々と地域（モンゴル、中国新疆ウイグル自治区）と、黄砂（風成塵）飛来が深刻な社会問題となりつつある東アジアの国々と地域（日本、韓国、台湾）が、乾燥地域の環境変動についてそれぞれの最新の研究成果を持ち寄り、討論を行う。その中で新たな学際的な国際共同研究を確立することを目的としている。
