Outline:

Last several years, a great deal of new data on the origin of rice agriculture in China and its diffusion to Southeast and East Asia have been obtained in areas of archaeobotany and genetics, that require reconsideration of the existing concept of early rice agriculture. However, so far there is no substantial exchanges between archaeobotanists and geneticists to sufficiently develop the discussion. For this symposium, 11 scholars of the both areas studying early rice agriculture are invited from 8 countries, to present newest advancements of their research and develop interdisciplinary discussion. Through that, we aim at constructing a synthetic view of archaeobotany and genetics to seek for new potentialities of research on the origin of rice agriculture.
