What is Google Earth (KML)?

Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographical information program, which has been provided by Google Earth since June 2005. It maps the Earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe. Google Earth, a free version (with limited functionality) is currently available for use on personal computers.

Keyhole Markup Language (KML) is an XML schema for expressing geographic annotation and visualization within internet-based, two-dimensional maps and three-dimensional Earth browsers like Google Earth. The KML file specifies a set of features (place marks, images, polygons, 3D models, textual descriptions, etc.) for display in Google Earth.
